Canvas Resources & Updates

Canvas is a web-based learning management system (LMS) developed by Instructure. Canvas allows faculty to streamline the delivery and organization of course materials, create assignments and quizzes, and allow for real-time student collaboration.

Canvas offers a fully accessible, user-friendly interface, and has been designed for intuitive navigation by both students and faculty. This landing page provides direct access to key training resources (developed by both the Bryant CTE and by Instructure), updates, and step-by-step guides to help you make the most of Canvas in your teaching.

Accessing Canvas

Canvas News and Notes

Instructure Introduces IgniteAI

Canvas’ parent company, Instructure, has recently announced an initiative to start incorporating narrow AI functionality into some of their features on a rolling basis, branded as IgniteAI. As IgniteAI features roll out, our process is to carefully monitor these updates, test them in our Beta environment, and then provide guidance and recommendations to faculty on pedagogically supportive and ethical use before enabling. As of July 2025, we do not have any recommended IgniteAI features available for faculty, but we will communicate when features become available for faculty use. While Instructure have not yet released a roadmap of upcoming IgniteAI features, we continue to work closely with our Canvas Customer Success Manager (CSM) to ensure that we are providing faculty with the most up-to-date, pedagogically appropriate, and relevant features and information.

New! Canvas Template Updates

The Center for Teaching Excellence would like to make you aware of changes made to the Canvas Template for Fall 2025 course sites.

We have made changes that elevate key Canvas features, minimize clutter, and provide direct links to crucial Bryant resources for both Faculty and Students. You can learn about the Canvas template by viewing the: Bryant University Canvas Template digital guide

If you use a Sandbox created pre-May 2025 to copy course content, you will need to copy content individually to avoid overriding the new template. Please follow the instructions outlined in the How do I select specific content as part of a course import? instructor guide from Canvas.
