Set aside dedicated time to develop and refine your Fall course(s) with support from course design experts from Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), Krupp Library, Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), and Office of Accessibility Services (OAS).
The landscape of education has become increasingly complex, particularly over the past decade, posing significant challenges for both faculty and students. Rapid changes in educational regulations, debates over academic freedom, a more polarized citizenry, swiftly evolving information systems, and the problem of misinformation have all contributed to the difficulty of navigating this shifting terrain. These changes call for ways to build resiliency in our teaching and learning spaces: To bring strength, community, and joy to our practices; to build understanding of different experiences of these shifts; and to provide concrete actionable strategies for the classroom.
The Course (Re)Design Institute provides faculty with dedicated time to develop and refine their courses with support from the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), Krupp Library, the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), and the Office of Accessibility Services (OAS).
Special support was also provided for making courses more accessible with 1:1 and small group consultations with Dr. Liz Norell. Liz serves as Associate Director of Instructional Support in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at the University of Mississippi. You can find Liz on her web site: Liz Norell.
In November, we had the pleasure of hosting Kevin Gannon, Director of the Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence (CAFE) and Professor of History at Queens University of Charlotte, for our Fall Faculty Forum. This three-part event featured a lively discussion of Kevin’s book Radical Hope: A Teaching Manifesto, which advocates for reclaiming higher education as a space for transformative learning; a workshop that pushed us to rethink what student engagement and connection can look like; and a keynote that encouraged us to re-evaluate the concept of rigor for a new generation of learners. We’re deeply grateful to Kevin for his thought-provoking insights and to everyone who participated in making the forum a success.
