Your syllabus statement on Academic Honesty should reflect your approach and 

• A statement that students are expected to adhere to Bryant's policy on Academic Honesty 
• A link to the policy: Academic Regulations and Policies
• An explanation of your approach to handling violations of the policy

You may wish to incorporate the following in your Academic Integrity Syllabus Statement. This is directly quoted from Bryant's Academic Regulations and Policies Handbook

A student’s education is the result of individual initiative and industry. Students certify that any and all class submissions, assignments, reports, etc. are their own original work. Each Bryant student, accordingly, understands that to submit work that is not their own violates University policy as well as personal integrity. A high standard of conduct in academic experiences is expected of each student.

The academic community, therefore, does not tolerate any form of “cheating” – the dishonest use of assistance in the preparation or submission of outside or in-class assignments. Violations of this policy are subject to disciplinary action.

Violations of Academic Integrity include but are not limited to:

• Plagiarism (including self-plagiarism) in any form;
• Copying from another student’s examination, term paper, homework or lab report or any other class submission;
• Inappropriate use of sources (e.g., cellphones) during a quiz or exam, etc.;
• Intentionally missing a quiz or exam, etc. to gain an unfair advantage;
• Submitting the same or substantially similar paper or assignment in more than one course without permission of the instructors;
• Unauthorized use of AI-writing tools or programs, and/or the permitted use of such tools without appropriate attribution or citation;
• Falsification or invention of data;
• Unauthorized use of the work of others including unauthorized collaboration;
• Misappropriation of examination materials or information;
• Giving illicit aid on exams, papers, or projects or any other class submissions.

Lack of knowledge of the above is unacceptable as an excuse for dishonest efforts.

Access the Academic Integrity Violation Reporting Form to submit suspected violations against Bryant's Academic Integrity Policy. 

1. Review the language in your syllabus, and on the particular assignment (where relevant): highlight the specific actions you believe have been violated
2. Gather evidence which can include: 
   • A copy of the student's submission
   • Turnitin similarity report
   • Prior examples of the student's work
   • Similarities to a peer's work etc. 
3. Talk through with a colleague while maintaining the student's confidentiality in accordance with FERPA
   • Do they also view this as a potential violation of your policy? 
4. Prepare to meet with the student
   • Depending on the nature of the situation, consider whether to inform the student ahead of time of the purpose of this meeting
   • Speak with a trusted colleague and/or your chair to discuss this step
5. Meet with the student
   • Approach with curiosity, not accusation. Event if you have a strong believe that a student has acted dishonestly, be open to what the student may share to explain discrepancies/similarities
6. Document your meeting
   • If meeting online, consider recording and/or transcribing your meeting
   • Send a follow-up email with a written account of what was discussed and stated during the interaction
7. Notify your chair
   • Summarize the issue, your determination of whether a violation occurred, and the consequences for the violation. 
   • Include the dates of the communication and all relevant materials to document what the issue was and how you reached your determination
   • Keep records for yourself and your chair
