Curated Class Feedback

Overview

The Curated Class Feedback (CCF) program brings a trained facilitator into your class to gather and summarize the class's most important, and agreed upon, feedback. CCF is an opportunity for faculty to receive:

  • Specific and anonymous non-evaluative feedback from students about what is working well and what they feel could be improved 
  • A confidential report created by a trusted colleague that is shared only with you
  • Aggregated comments from the class which the majority of students agreed upon
  • Feedback that can be implemented during the semester, enabling your students to feel heard which can lead to them investing more effort into your class 

The Curated Class Feedback (CCF) Process

  1. You will be assigned a trained facilitator who will meet with you to discuss your goals for the class feedback session
  2. During your planned feedback session, the facilitator will conduct a 30-minute guided discussion with students while you step out of the room
  3. The facilitator will ask students to identify what is going well, what could potentially be improved, and what advice they would give
  4. Afterwards, you and the facilitator will meet to review the anonymized responses and engage in a discussion to implement the feedback into your course
  5. You will receive a report summarizing the feedback a few days after your session
  6. Within a week, spend 15 minutes discussing the feedback with your students

Curated Class Feedback is never required and is never used for evaluative purposes. The report and feedback is not shared with anyone else or used for promotion/tenure or other awards.

How do I sign up for the Curated Class Feedback (CCF) Program?

The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) will contact all faculty (adjunct, term, and tenure-track) after the first month of class to offer slots. Availability is first-come, first-served.

Who are the facilitators?

Facilitators are colleagues who have volunteered to be trained to conduct the observation. You can not request a specific facilitator. Facilitators are matched largely based on schedule availability.

I already ask for mid-semester feedback from my students. How does CCF differ?

The CCF method can be enlightening for students. When they provide feedback individually, they don't seek how their feedback compares with the rest of the class. With CCF, students quickly see whether others feel as they do, and how unified (or not) the class is on certain approaches.

How does CCF differ from end-of-term evaluations?

CCF allows you to receive implementable feedback prior to the end of the semester. It is completely private and never shared outside of you and your facilitator (unless you choose to share as part of a CTE consultation). CCF is also generally more qualitative than the quantitative feedback received from course evaluations.
